Welcome to silicone-implants.net

People develop a complex when they notice deviation from the norm, especially with regard to their physical structure or features. One of the most common problems that women have is the size of their breasts. Silicone implants is one way of solving this problem, although it isn’t the safest methods around. Known formally as breast augmentation therapy or in simpler terms, breast enlargement, silicone implant surgery is purely cosmetic in nature. It is most popular in the United States, with nearly half a million women going under the surgeon’s knife every year. At times, the surgery is just done since certain women desire bigger breasts or seek greater attention.

Silicone implants can actually be further categorized into two types – saline filled implants and silicone gel filled implants. In the former, the filling agent is a silicone elastomer shell that encloses a salty liquid. In the case of silicone gel implants, the shell is silicone and the liquid is replaced by a viscous gel of the same silicone material. You must have also heard about other implant alternatives, but most of them were phased out due to lack of appeal among patients.

Who does it?

It is noticed that women who undergo a silicone implant surgery are mostly young and in good health. This essentially means the surgery is done for cosmetic reasons more than anything else, and the patients usually come from the higher socio-economic strata. However, this isn’t entirely true. Apparently, these women had showed signs of depression that resulted from constantly being looked down upon for the size of their breasts. And studies also show that most patients actually suffer from low levels of confidence and self-esteem.

Does it make any difference?

Studies carried out among women who had silicone implants showed that their mental state had improved after the surgery. The showed signs of increase in self esteem and also improved sexual drive. However, there have been cases when the surgery had an adverse effect, with some patients having had to return to the table due to complications they developed over a course of time.

Is it really safe?

The question cannot be answered categorically, since data is skewed towards the negative effects of silicone implants. This, perhaps, is a natural reaction of the society to an attempt at changing the way one looks through artificial means. However, since the start of the 20th century, extensive research and reviews have been conducted to examine the possible connection between certain neurological problems and silicone implants. Apparently, certain women showed improvement in their problems after the implants were removed. Studies also showed that a significant number of patients had developed immunity issues. And some patients showed signs of diseases like respiratory cancer. However, another recent finding showed that silicone implants may not directly affect the health of women after all.

Common Complications

Like any other surgery, there are possibilities of a complication. In the case of silicone implants, the surgery can lead to reactions like bleeding, infection, pain or changes in sensation. Other complications that certain patients reported include scarring, impediments to breast feeding, wrinkles, damage to the breast tissue, etc.

Immediate Effects

Although there is very little cause for concern, patients should remember that the aftermath of the surgery wouldn’t be entirely comfortable. Patients have complained of breast pain, soreness, discomfort, fatigues, etc. However, if you wish to avoid swelling, you can always choose to have the implants over the muscle. Allow a certain timeframe for any kind of bruises to heal. Regular activities can, however, be performed without any problems a week after the surgery. One must also remember that silicone implants may not be very effective if the patient has drooping breasts.

Addition Surgery

Since silicone implants are a cosmetic addition to the body, they cannot be used permanently. A revision surgery needs to be carried out once or more if they continue to use the implants all through their life. A study also justified that silicone implants have a lifetime of a few years. When you see notice complications, ruptures, etc, it is a telltale sign that you need to visit your doctor to consult about a repair surgery.

When you are deciding to get a silicone implant, remember all the complications and possible shortcomings. It is always wise to consult your doctor and ask yourself if you are really ready for it.
